For those questions that are so common, shouldn&#8217;t they be easy to find?<\/p>\n<p>You improve the user experience when you embed FAQ in software.<\/p>\n<h2>Embed FAQ in <em>Twitter<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s use a popular online and application software as an example of how you can embed FAQ in software. We&#8217;ll give <em>Twitter<\/em> a facelift. (Don&#8217;t worry, we won&#8217;t hack <em>Twitter<\/em>. We&#8217;ll use some screenshots to show a published result).<\/p>\n<p>First, take a look at the <em>Twitter<\/em> FAQ page. It&#8217;s nice. Simple. Easy to read. Well organized. You don&#8217;t want a cluttered UI. You&#8217;ll need to decide which questions are appropriate for the UI. You can always link to further documentation within the embedded FAQ.<\/p>\n<p>And of course, software developers and content creators (and product owners) will need to work together. Someone writes the FAQ, someone decides where to place it in the UI, and the developer makes it happen.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s where <em><strong>edc<\/strong> <\/em>comes in. Easydoccontents (edc) was designed for embedded and online help and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at our <em>Twitter<\/em> example to see exactly how it works.<\/p>\n<h2>Embed FAQ as a Brick<\/h2>\n<p>A brick is just a piece of UI where you want the information to live. In <em><strong>edc<\/strong><\/em>, you add bricks for Contextualised UI Help and use other Document Types for online help. When you embed FAQ, you can then link to related articles in the online help. This gives users the option to learn more about the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Using <em><strong>edc<\/strong><\/em>, you can embed FAQ in less time than it takes you to read this article.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Create a brick<\/h3>\n<p>In the <em><strong>edc<\/strong> <\/em>editor, create a brick for Contextualised UI Help.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4112\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/create-brick.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/create-brick.png 331w, https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/create-brick-300x203.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>2. Add a title<\/h3>\n<p>Add a title for the new brick. This title will appear in the UI, so make it good. When you embed FAQ, this title should be the question users ask.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Write the description<\/h3>\n<p>Add the response in the Description field. Select a brick type<\/h3>\n<p>Under Brick Elements, select a Brick Type. This can be a panel that opens in the software, a new window, or a tooltip.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll find other options under this pull-down menu. For our <em>Twitter<\/em> example, we&#8217;ll use a panel.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Add brick keys<\/h3>\n<p>Brick Keys tell the software where to place the brick in the UI. Usually, the developer includes an associated icon, such as a Help icon.<\/p>\n<p>A developer can create the brick and add the keys, or a writer can ask for the keys and add them directly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4116\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/brick-elements.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/brick-elements.png 418w, https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/brick-elements-300x229.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>6. Upload a reference image (optional)<\/h3>\n<p>You can even upload an image, just for reference, to show how and where the FAQ should appear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4118\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/reference-image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/reference-image.png 417w, https:\/\/www.easydoccontents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/reference-image-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>7. Create and publish<\/h3>\n<p>Finally, click Create, add a few links to further documentation in the online help, and Publish.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look. This brick key placed the FAQ under a <em>Tweet<\/em>, where you can either reply or send a direct message. What&#8217;s the difference?
